OMNIVISION Adds Five New Products to Sensor Portfolio

SUNNYVALE, CA — February 12, 2001 — OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVTI), a market leader in designing, developing and marketing advanced, single-chip CMOS image sensors used in electronic cameras and other optical imaging devices, today announced the addition of five new products to its image sensor line-up. The new products are designed for a wide range of functions, including high-resolution, direct TV output and portable, battery-operated applications. These new offerings reflect OMNIVISION’s desire to provide a full spectrum of innovative and cost-effective image sensors for a wide range of products and solutions.

“We are now able to offer customers 15 different image sensors from which to choose,” said Hank O’Hara, vice president of worldwide sales for OMNIVISION. “Our customers can find a wide range of camera solutions within our product portfolio which differentiates us from other suppliers in this space.”

These new CMOS image sensors utilize OMNIVISION’s patented technology for a highly integrated solution where the image-sensing array (the eye) and the image data processing (the brain) are integrated in a single chip.

OV8610 and OV8110 SVGA Sensors
The new OV8610 and OV8110 are respectively color and black and white image sensors for applications requiring a higher resolution. Such applications include cameras designed for PCs, security, home entertainment and the digital still camera market, as well as bar code readers, biometrics, automotive and medical instruments. Both products provide SVGA (800 x 600) resolution, digital output, 1/3-inch lens format and operate on 3.3 volts. The combination of high resolution and low power consumption opens up many new opportunities for small, handheld, battery powered camera applications. OMNIVISION additionally offers its advanced camera-to-USB bridge, the OV518+, as a companion to these products, enabling a low-cost, highly integrated USB camera system without the need for external dynamic random access memory (DRAM).

OV5116 TV Sensor
The new OV5116 is the latest in OMNIVISION’s arsenal of low-resolution analog sensor solutions. The OV5116 is a black and white single chip CMOS image sensor, designed for applications requiring a low-cost television camera, such as security, toys, infant monitoring, closed circuit television (CCTV) and process control.

The OV5116 is a second-generation product providing increased sensitivity via active pixel technology. Each pixel has its own amplifier, which better amplifies the light to produce a clearer signal. Designed for both EIA (the black and white equivalent of NTSC, the video standard in the United States and Canada) and CCIR (the black and white equivalent of PAL, the European video standard) output, the OV5116 outputs composite video capable of directly driving a 75( display device, such as a television. The resolution is 352×288 (50 Hz) or 320×240 (60 Hz) in a 1/4-inch lens format. The on-chip auto exposure allows for a wide range of lighting conditions. This feature, along with its single-supply, 5.0 volt, low-power consumption, makes the OV5116 a versatile and cost-effective video camera, suitable for a wide range of consumer applications.

OV6630 and OV6130 CIF Sensors
The OV6630 (color) and OV6130 (black and white) CMOS image sensors are designed for portable, hand-held, battery-operated applications. With CIF (352 x 288) resolution, 1/4-inch lens format, digital output and low (3.0 – 3.6V) voltage, these image sensors meet the desired characteristics for small, lightweight and low-power-consumption products such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and digital still cameras. These single chip CMOS image sensors can be utilized in several mass-market consumer products where video input is very much in demand. These image sensors can be used with OMNIVISION’s advanced camera-to-USB bridge companion chip enabling a low-cost, highly integrated USB camera system without the need for external DRAM.

Pricing and Availability
Production samples of the OV8610 and OV8110 image sensors are currently available for OEM qualification. The prices are $15.00 and $14.00 respectively in OEM quantities. The OV5116 is currently available for under $6 in large quantities. The OV6630 and OV6130 are currently available at $7.00 and $6.50 respectively in large quantities.

About OMNIVISION
OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc. designs, develops and markets high-performance, high-quality and cost-efficient camera chips. The company’s single-chip image sensors are used in a variety of electronic cameras and optical imaging products for both still picture and live video applications. OMNIVISION provides all the functionality of a complete camera, and only a lens need be added. OMNIVISION is able to integrate all image system functions into a single chip instead of multiple chips required to achieve the same functions by competitive image sensors. The single-chip design enables customers to design cameras that are lower in cost, smaller, lighter in weight, consume less power, are more reliable and more easily integrated with other circuits than cameras using multiple-chip image sensors. OMNIVISION is based in Sunnyvale, California. For more information about the company, visit www.ovt.com.
