Atsana and OMNIVISION Jointly Develop Reference Design for Video Enabled Wireless Devices

OTTAWA, CANADA & SUNNYVALE, CA — April 22,2002 — Atsana Semiconductor Corp., a leader in the development of power-efficient, programmable processors for multimedia wireless devices, and OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVTI), a market-leading independent supplier of CameraChip™ solutions for high-volume imaging applications, today announced they are jointly developing a mobile multimedia reference design to improve the performance of mobile video and imaging devices such as wireless cameras and video-enabled wireless phones.

OMNIVISION’s CMOS video sensor will be integrated with Atsana’s programmable media processor on a reference platform designed to enhance the performance of wireless-enabled cameras and multimedia phones. The reference design is currently in a prototype stage and uses an FPGA version of the Atsana media processor. The Atsana FPGA media processor supports MPEG-4 at QCIF (176×144) resolution and JPEG at VGA (640×480) resolution.

The mobile multimedia camera module reference design is currently fully programmable, meaning it can be programmed to support a variety of video processing algorithms. This includes supporting the current video compression standards such as MPEG-4 and JPEG as well as emerging standards such as H.26L. Additionally, the module can be programmed with special algorithms such as image pre-processing and image stabilization.
