Feb 22, 2016

Award-Winning Device Leverages OMNIVISION's OVP2200 and OVP921 to Revolutionize Media, Gaming, and Virtual Reality Experiences

BARCELONA — February 22, 2016 — OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, announced today from Mobile World Congress (MWC) that Vuzix® Corporation (Nasdaq: VUZI), a leading supplier of video eyewear and smart glasses in the consumer, enterprise and entertainment markets, has utilized OMNIVISION’s ultra-compact OVP2200 liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) display and OVP921 image processor for its award-winning iWear wireless video headphones.

“Creating a product that revolutionizes the way we play games and consume media is never an isolated process. It requires deep collaboration and a thorough understanding of your technology partners’ capabilities,” said Paul Travers, president and CEO of Vuzix. “OMNIVISION’s easily-integrated LCOS solution and companion chip bring the display quality and processing power we needed to produce a truly immersive and unique viewing experience. We view OMNIVISION as a valued partner in our pursuit to develop more innovative ways to interact with movies, games, and the world around us.”

“With the iWear wireless video headphones, Vuzix is seeking to change the way we consume and interact with media of all types,” said Taku Katayama, director of LCOS business development at OMNIVISION. “We are thrilled to be working alongside a pioneering company like Vuzix, and to promote the adoption of our LCOS technologies across a wide range of quickly evolving markets, including wearable displays and automobiles.”

Vuzix’ iWear wireless video headphones enable users to enjoy a wide range of games, applications and movies, while allowing them to interact with their surrounding physical environments through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) software. At the heart of the platform are two of OMNIVISION’s OVP2200 LCOS displays and two OVP921 companion chips, providing both 2D and 3D video in crisp 720p high definition (HD) video at 60 frames per second (FPS). This combination enables the iWear wireless video headphones’ large virtual screen, the size of which is equivalent to a 125-inch screen in a home theater, viewed at 10 feet away.

Vuzix’ iWear wireless video headphones will be on display at Vuzix’ booth #CS119 at the 2016 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 22-25.
