OmniVision is one of the leaders in offering non-Pb (lead-free) products. In October of 2004, we began shipping volume production of such products. By January 2005, almost every OmniVision product in production was offered with a lead-free option. As of March 2006, OmniVision has shipped well over 170 million non-Pb units worldwide.

Today, all members of OmniVision's product family’s are offered with a non-Pb (lead-free) environmental option.


OmniVision’s RoHS Compliance RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) is a European Union (EU) directive that bans lead (Pb) and certain other materials in electrical and electronic equipment. This directive takes effect on July 1, 2006.

The RoHS directive bans the following substances:

  • Lead and its compounds
  • Mercury and its compounds
  • Cadmium or cadmium compounds
  • Hexavalent Chromium and its compounds
  • PBB (polybromobiphenyl)
  • PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ethers)
All megapixel sensors come in a lead-free package.
