OMNIVISION Launches the OV9734, the Company’s Smallest 720p HD Sensor for Next-Gen Notebooks and Mobile Devices
Jun 03, 2015

Advanced PureCel® Technology Enables New Ultra-Compact and Power-Efficient OV9734 CameraChip™ Sensor

SANTA CLARA, Calif., — June 3, 2015 — OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVTI), a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today announced the OV9734, the company’s smallest 720p high-definition (HD) sensor for consumer applications. Built on OMNIVISION’s PureCel® technology, the OV9734 CameraChip™ delivers premium quality images and video, while consuming significantly less power than previous generation image sensors, making it an attractive camera solution for slim notebooks, tablets, handsets and other mobile devices that require thin bezels.

“According to industry reports, high demand for HD sensors is expected in the mobile devices markets over the next three years, with approximately 400 million units per year for camera phones and 164 million units per year for notebooks*,” said Arun Jayaseelan, product marketing manager of front facing cameras at OMNIVISION. “The OV9734 can be integrated into an extremely compact camera module, making it a highly competitive, no compromise camera solution for the growing markets of slim notebooks and mobile devices.”

The 1/9‑inch OV9734 CameraChip™ sensor can capture 720p HD video at 30 frames per second (fps) or VGA resolution at 45 fps, meeting the premium video quality specifications for popular video conferencing platforms. The OV9734 utilizes OMNIVISION’s proprietary PureCel® technology to reduce common imaging noise, resulting in clean and crisp color images. Additionally, the OV9734 requires approximately 25 percent less power than previous generation OMNIVISION HD sensors, at just 70 mW.

To fit into ultra-thin bezel devices, the OV9734 comes in a package with a y‑dimension that is 47 percent smaller than the previous generation OMNIVISION 720p sensors. The OV9734 is currently available for sampling, and is expected to enter volume production in the third quarter of 2015.
